Luxury Hotels and Lodges in Nepal: A Region-by-Region Guide (2026)

Shinta Mani Mustang, a 29-suite luxury retreat above Jomsom, was ranked No. 1 in Robb Report’s 2026 list of the 50 Greatest Luxury Hotels on Earth. Its five-night minimum stay and premium all-inclusive pricing — from about USD 1,800 net per couple per night — place it in a different category from Nepal’s city hotels and trekking lodges.

Choosing among the best luxury hotels and lodges in Nepal depends on where you want to travel, how you plan to get there, and what level of comfort you expect. Kathmandu offers heritage hotels and international five-star properties, Pokhara has boutique retreats, the Everest and Annapurna regions offer premium trekking lodges, and Chitwan and Bardia are known for safari stays.

This guide compares the leading options by region, explains typical accommodation costs, and helps you choose a property that fits your itinerary and budget. Rates are indicative for 2026–27 and confirmed at booking. For the broader picture, start with our luxury travel in Nepal overview.

What “Luxury” Means in Nepal — and Where It Actually Exists

In Nepal, “luxury” describes three different standards, and only one of them involves thread count. A luxury hotel is a city property with full five-star service: Kathmandu and Pokhara. A luxury lodge is a trail property built for comfort: Everest, Annapurna and Manang. A luxury safari lodge is all-inclusive with guides, vehicles and park access: Chitwan and Bardia.

Common features of a premium lodge include en-suite bathrooms, hot showers, heating and a proper kitchen. Not every property delivers all four, especially above 3,500 m / 11,483 ft. At that altitude, luxury means the best available room, a heated dining room, reliable charging and staff who know how to manage cold. It does not mean a spa.

At high-altitude stops such as Gorak Shep, accommodation standards differ considerably from those of five-star city hotels. Confirm room type, bathroom arrangements, heating and hot-water availability before booking. That is why the region matters more than the star rating. We break down what star ratings do and do not mean on the trail in what “5-star” means on a Nepal trek.

Luxury Hotels and Lodges in Nepal at a Glance

The table below is the decision shortcut. Pick the region that matches your trip, then read that section.

Two things stand out. First, the highest luxury is not at the highest altitude. The most expensive property in the country sits at 2,800 m, lower than most Everest teahouses. Second, true lodge networks exist only in the Everest and Annapurna regions; everywhere else you are choosing between hotels and the best available teahouse.

Luxury Hotels in Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu has Nepal’s deepest luxury stock, and it splits into three useful categories: heritage hotels, international five-stars, and ridge retreats outside the city. Most travellers need two nights here at the start or end of a trek, not five. Room sizes and facilities vary by category, so confirm the specific room at booking.

Heritage Hotels in Kathmandu

The Dwarika’s is the benchmark. It is built around one of the world’s largest collections of Newari wood carving, with rooms starting at about 40 sqm and a courtyard restaurant, Krishnarpan, that serves a slow multi-course Nepali menu. It feels like a museum you can sleep in, and it is the property most often used for arrival nights before a trek.

Yak & Yeti blends a heritage wing with modern rooms and a garden compound in Durbar Marg. It is less design-led than Dwarika’s but more central for shops and embassies.

International Five-Star Hotels in Kathmandu

Hyatt Regency Kathmandu sits on 37 acres near Boudhanath, with the stupa a short walk away and the most reliable grounds for jet-lagged families. Kathmandu Marriott is one of the city’s newest full-service five-stars, with the strongest gym and pool combination in the city.

Choose this category for consistency, loyalty points, and a bed that behaves like a bed in any other capital. Choose heritage for a sense of place.

Mountain Retreats Near Kathmandu

Dwarika’s Sanctuary in Dhulikhel, about 1,550 m / 5,085 ft and 1.5 hours from the city, faces a 200 km Himalayan panorama and runs one of Nepal’s better spas. Club Himalaya in Nagarkot, at 2,175 m / 7,136 ft, is older but has the sunrise view that made the ridge famous.

These are not trekking bases. They are recovery bases — best used after a trek, when a quiet ridge and a hot bath do more than another Durbar Square circuit.

Luxury Lodges in Pokhara and the Annapurna Foothills

Pokhara is the bookend, not the destination. The lake is beautiful, the pace is slow, and the best properties are outside the Lakeside strip rather than on it.

Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge sits on a ridge at about 1,220 m / 4,003 ft, around 30–40 minutes from town, with stone cottages, organic gardens and no televisions. It is the closest thing in Nepal to a safari lodge built for mountains, and it works well as a two-night reset before or after an Annapurna trek.

The Pavilions Himalayas is a low-rise eco-villa property on farmland outside Pokhara, with a pool and a quieter, more contemporary feel. Fishtail Lodge occupies a private island in Phewa Lake, reached by boat, and trades space for location.

Then there is the foothill lodge circuit. The current Mountain Lodges of Nepal list includes lodges at Birethanti, Ghandruk, Landruk, Dhampus, Majgaon and Tomijong, between roughly 1,100 m and 2,000 m. These are the properties that make a comfortable Ghorepani or Poon Hill trek possible without camping. We use them on the Poon Hill trek and on shorter Annapurna itineraries.

Luxury Lodges in the Everest Region

The Everest region has the most developed luxury lodge network in Nepal, and it is split between three lodge operators and one independent hotel. None of them is a five-star hotel. All of them are a long way above a standard teahouse. Operating names and lodge lists change, so confirm the current details at booking.

Hotel Everest View

At 3,880 m / 12,730 ft in Syangboche, Hotel Everest View is widely billed as the highest hotel of its kind in the world. It has 12 rooms, opened in 1971, and a terrace that looks straight at Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam. Rooms are simple, heating is limited, and oxygen is available. You are paying for the view and the altitude, not the bathroom.

It is reached in about 15 minutes on foot from the Syangboche airstrip, or by helicopter. Most guests stay one or two nights as part of an acclimatisation route rather than as a destination in itself.

Mountain Lodges of Nepal (Formerly Yeti Mountain Home)

Mountain Lodges of Nepal is the current name for the network many older guides still call Yeti Mountain Home. The rebrand happened around 2022, and several 2026 articles have not caught up. The Everest lodges are at Lukla, Phakding, Monjo, Namche, Thame, Deboche and Kongde.

Kongde is the standout: 4,250 m / 13,944 ft, facing the Numbur range, with a dining room built around the view. Lodges typically have 10–20 rooms, full-board service and hot showers. Reported rates run USD 230–400 per person per night, depending on lodge and season, which is roughly two to four times a standard teahouse.

Everest Summit Lodges and The Himalayan

Everest Summit Lodges runs a smaller, quieter set at Lukla, Monjo, Mende, Tashinga and Pangboche. The routing is slightly different from MLN, which matters if you want to avoid the busiest villages.

The Himalayan operates 14 cottages at Phakding and a lodge at Tyangboche, with a style closer to a country house than a trekking lodge. It is a good fit for travellers who want the trail but not the teahouse rhythm.

A practical note: these lodges are not bookable like city hotels. They allocate rooms to operators and trekking groups, and a direct online booking is often not the fastest route. We confirm availability against your dates before quoting, and we build the itinerary around the lodges that are actually open. See the Everest Base Camp luxury trek and the Everest View Hotel trek.

Luxury Lodges on the Annapurna Circuit

The Annapurna region has two luxury tiers, and they suit different trips. The lower tier is the foothill circuit: Birethanti, Ghandruk, Landruk, Dhampus, Majgaon and Tomijong, all between about 1,100 m and 2,000 m, with en-suite rooms, gardens and real coffee. This is where a comfortable Poon Hill or short Annapurna trek happens.

The upper tier starts at Chame (2,650 m / 8,694 ft) and Manang (3,540 m / 11,614 ft). Manang Lodge has 14 rooms and a heated common room; Chame Lodge is smaller but sits at the head of the valley with pine forest and Paungda Danda views. Confirm current room counts and facilities directly with each lodge.

Above Manang, the circuit reverts to teahouses. That is not a failure of the luxury market; it is a function of road access, season length and the cost of running a property at 4,000 m. If you want the full circuit with the best rooms, plan the high passes as teahouse nights and the valleys as lodge nights.

We build that mix into the Annapurna Circuit luxury trek.

Luxury Hotels and Lodges in Mustang

Mustang has one true ultra-luxury property and a lot of very good teahouses. Shinta Mani Mustang is the property: 29 suites, designed by Bill Bensley, on a ridge above Jomsom at 2,800 m / 9,186 ft, with Nilgiri views and an all-inclusive model that covers meals, permits, guiding and transfers.

It is not a trekking lodge. It is a destination resort with a five-night minimum, a rate from about USD 1,800 net per couple per night, and a seasonal closure during the monsoon, typically July and August. Confirm exact dates and inclusions with the property. The design references Mustang’s Tibetan Buddhist culture rather than generic Himalayan chic, which is why it has collected the awards it has.

The confusion is worth correcting: Shinta Mani Mustang is in Lower Mustang, not Lo Manthang. If you are trekking to Lo Manthang in Upper Mustang, you will not be staying there. Upper Mustang has no equivalent property; the best rooms are family-run lodges in Lo Manthang and Tsarang, and they are comfortable but simple.

That distinction matters for itinerary planning. A Shinta Mani stay pairs with Jomsom, Kagbeni and Muktinath, not with a six-day restricted-area trek. For the latter, see our Upper Mustang trek and Upper Mustang jeep tour.

Luxury Safari Lodges in Chitwan and Bardia

Chitwan has the polish; Bardia has the wilder experience. Both are low-altitude, all-inclusive and guide-led, which makes them the easiest “luxury” add-on to any Nepal trip.

Meghauli Serai, A Taj Safari is the flagship. It has 29 keys — 12 Meghauli rooms, 16 Rapti one-bedroom pool villas and one presidential two-bedroom villa — on the Rapti River, with boat safaris, jeep drives and naturalists. Kasara Resort and Barahi Jungle Lodge are the other established options, both inside the park buffer zone and both strong on guiding. If you are comparing wildlife experiences, our guide to luxury wildlife lodges in Nepal explains the differences between Chitwan and Bardia.

In Bardia, Tiger Tops Karnali Lodge has 9 Signature and 6 Traditional rooms, a pool and 30 acres of rewilded land. Full-board rates are published at USD 305–335 per person per night for 2026–27, with safaris and park fees extra. It is quieter than Chitwan and better for travellers who want to work for a tiger sighting.

Confirm whether activities and park fees are included in any quoted safari rate; at Karnali they are extra, and the same is true at several Chitwan lodges. We compare the two parks in detail in Chitwan vs Bardia lodges. For a combined itinerary, the Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan luxury tour uses the Chitwan lodges above.

Where Premium Lodging in Nepal Is Limited

Langtang, Manaslu and Kanchenjunga have no established luxury lodge network that we can confirm. Premium choices are limited, and this is worth knowing before you book.

In Langtang, the best accommodation is a comfortable teahouse in Lama Hotel, Ghodatabela or Kyanjin Gompa, with private rooms and shared bathrooms. In Manaslu, a restricted-area route, the lodges are family-run and improve each year but remain simple. Kanchenjunga is remote still.

If an operator promises a five-star lodge in Langtang, ask for the property name and the room category. We are not aware of one. What you can buy is the best room in the best teahouse, a private guide, and a helicopter return if you want to skip the road. That is a premium trip, not a luxury-lodge trip, and the distinction is worth understanding before you pay.

What Luxury Hotels and Lodges in Nepal Cost

Prices vary by season, room category, occupancy and whether meals, permits and guiding are included. The bands below are indicative for 2026–27 and are the numbers we use when building quotes.

Region and tierTypical nightly bandRate basisUsually included
Kathmandu, 5-star or heritageUSD 180–450Per roomBreakfast
Pokhara, boutique or eco-lodgeUSD 150–350Per roomBreakfast
Everest, premium lodgeUSD 230–400Per personFull board
Annapurna and Manang, premium lodgeUSD 200–350Per personFull board

Chitwan or Bardia, safari lodgeUSD 300–600Per personFull board and activities

Indicative accommodation prices for 2026–27. Rates vary by dates, room category, occupancy and inclusions. Confirm current prices directly with the property or through your tour operator. Two cost traps are worth naming: trail lodge rates are usually per person, full board, so a couple pays roughly double the quoted figure; and the lodge rate is not the trip cost. Permits, flights to Lukla or Jomsom, helicopter transfers and guide fees sit on top. Our luxury Nepal tour cost breakdown covers those line items.

How to Book Luxury Lodges in Nepal

Book peak-season lodges three to six months ahead. The Everest and Annapurna lodges are small, the best rooms are allocated to operators first, and October and November fill before the summer. Treat these as recommendations, not guaranteed cutoffs.

SeasonBook byWhy
October–November4–6 months aheadPeak clarity, highest demand
March–May3–6 months aheadSecond peak, rhododendron season
December–February6–10 weeks aheadCold and quiet, some lodges close
June–August4–6 weeks aheadMonsoon; several properties shut

Permits are part of the same booking. For foreign visitors, the Everest route requires a Sagarmatha National Park entry permit (NPR 3,000) and a Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality permit (NPR 3,000). The Annapurna region requires ACAP (NPR 3,000). These figures exclude any applicable taxes, and requirements differ by route. Upper Mustang is a restricted area with a per-day fee that was reformed in 2026; confirm the current rate at booking. For a full list, see our Nepal visa and permit fees page and the Nepal Tourism Board.

Nepal Lion Tours arranges the applicable permits and registrations before departure, and we confirm which lodges are open on your dates before you pay. We are a registered Kathmandu company, Reg. No. 184920/074/075, and we can send licence and membership documents on request.

Luxury Lodge Booking Checklist

Run through these ten points before you pay a deposit. They are the questions that decide whether a “luxury” lodge actually feels luxurious on the night.

  • Bathroom: private and attached, and when hot water runs.
  • Heating: room heater, electric blanket or heated dining room only.
  • Meals: full board or breakfast only, and whether drinks are extra.
  • Luggage: transfer included, and the weight limit on flights.
  • Access: road, flight or helicopter, plus the weather backup.
  • Altitude: highest sleeping elevation, oxygen access, evacuation cover.
  • Permits: included in the rate or billed separately.
  • Guides: private guide or shared group.
  • Cancellation: lodge terms separate from package terms.
  • Payment: deposit amount, currency and card fees.

Frequently Asked Questions About Luxury Hotels and Lodges in Nepal

Are there luxury hotels in Nepal?

Yes. Kathmandu has international five-star hotels and heritage properties, Pokhara has boutique and eco-lodges, and the Everest, Annapurna and Manang regions have premium trail lodges. Chitwan and Bardia have all-inclusive safari lodges. The standard varies by altitude, not by star rating.

What is the most luxurious lodge in Nepal?

Shinta Mani Mustang is the most luxurious by design, service and price: 29 suites, a Bill Bensley design, all-inclusive rates from about USD 1,800 net per couple per night and a five-night minimum. For trekking, Hotel Everest View and the Kongde lodge are the signature high-altitude stays.

Can you stay in luxury lodges without trekking?

Yes, with some walking. You can fly or take a helicopter to Lukla or Syangboche, drive to Pokhara and Chitwan, or fly to Jomsom for Shinta Mani. Hotel Everest View still requires a short walk from the Syangboche airstrip, and altitude affects everyone regardless of budget.

How much does a luxury lodge in Nepal cost per night?

Expect USD 230–400 per person per night at premium Everest and Annapurna lodges, full board. Kathmandu five-stars run USD 180–450 per room, safari lodges USD 300–600 per person, and Shinta Mani from about USD 1,800 net per couple per night. Rates are seasonal and confirmed at booking.

Which region has the best luxury lodges in Nepal?

It depends on the trip. Mustang has the single most luxurious property. Khumbu has the best high-altitude lodge network. Annapurna has the most comfortable trekking lodges at moderate altitude. Chitwan has the best wildlife lodges. There is no overall winner, only a best fit.

Do luxury lodges in Nepal have hot water and heating?

At the premium tier, usually. Expect hot showers, electric blankets or heated dining rooms, and charging points. Above 3,500 m, heating is limited and hot water may run on a schedule. Ask about hot-water timing and room heating before booking a winter stay.

What is the best time to book luxury lodges in Nepal?

Three to six months ahead for October–November and March–May. Book six to ten weeks ahead for winter and four to six weeks ahead in the monsoon, when some lodges close. The best rooms are allocated to operators first, so early enquiries get the better properties.

Is Hotel Everest View worth the price?

Yes, if you want the view and the altitude. It is widely billed as the highest hotel of its kind, with 12 rooms and a terrace facing Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam. Rooms are simple and service is functional. Book it as a one-night acclimatisation stay, not as a five-star resort.

Plan Your Luxury Stay in Nepal

The best luxury accommodation depends on your destination, travel dates, preferred comfort level and budget. A five-star hotel in Kathmandu will not fix a cold lodge in Khumbu, and a famous lodge in Mustang will not shorten the drive to Chitwan.
