Everest View Trek Overview
The Everest View Trek is an 8-day trek in Nepal's Everest region designed for travellers who want to experience the Khumbu without committing to the longer Everest Base Camp route. The journey takes you through Lukla, Phakding and Namche Bazaar, with time to explore Sherpa villages and enjoy views of Mount Everest and other Himalayan peaks. The route is commonly planned around Hotel Everest View at about 3,880 metres, making it a relatively short way to experience the high Himalayas.
Starting and ending in Kathmandu, the 8-day Everest View Trek combines a scenic flight to Lukla with well-established trails through the Sagarmatha National Park. The route passes through forested hills, suspension bridges, mountain villages and the busy Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar, giving trekkers a mix of Himalayan scenery and local culture.
The trek is particularly suitable for travellers looking for a short Everest trek. It provides time to experience the Khumbu landscape, visit the Everest View Hotel, learn about Sherpa culture and see peaks such as Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku without following the full route to Everest Base Camp.
What Makes the Everest View Trek Special?
The journey begins with the flight toward Lukla, followed by a relatively short trek to Phakding. From there, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi valley before climbing toward Namche Bazaar, the main trading and cultural centre of the Khumbu region.
Namche Bazaar is one of the major highlights of the trek. At around 3,440 metres, the town provides an important acclimatization stop and an opportunity to experience everyday life in the Everest region. From Namche, the trail climbs toward Syangboche and Hotel Everest View, where clear-weather conditions can provide close views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse and Thamserku.
Beyond the mountain views, the trek introduces you to the Sherpa communities of the Khumbu. Depending on the route, you may pass through or explore villages such as Khumjung and Khunde, while monasteries, prayer flags, mani walls and traditional mountain homes add a cultural dimension to the journey.
The return follows the trail back toward Lukla, where you prepare for the flight back to Kathmandu. This gives the Everest View Trek a practical 8-day format while still allowing enough time to experience the landscape and culture of the lower Everest region.
Why Choose the Everest View Trek?
If you want to see Mount Everest without undertaking the longer Everest Base Camp Trek, this route offers a shorter way to experience the Khumbu. The itinerary combines mountain views, Sherpa villages, forest trails and time around Namche Bazaar in a manageable trekking program. Current trekking operators commonly describe the route as moderate or easy to moderate, although the altitude and uphill sections still require reasonable fitness.
The trek is also useful for travellers with limited time in Nepal. Rather than continuing toward the higher settlements of the EBC route, you spend more time around the lower Khumbu region and return to Lukla after reaching the main Everest-viewing areas.
Who Is This 8-Day Everest View Trek Suitable For?
The 8-day Everest View Trek is a good choice for:
- Travellers with limited time who want a short Everest-region trek
- First-time trekkers with reasonable fitness
- Visitors who want to see Mount Everest without trekking to Everest Base Camp
- Trekkers interested in Namche Bazaar and Sherpa culture
- Families and couples comfortable with several hours of uphill and downhill walking
- Travellers who prefer a shorter Himalayan itinerary
- Anyone looking for Everest views, mountain villages and Himalayan scenery in one trek
Previous high-altitude trekking experience is not essential for this route, but you should be comfortable walking for several hours on uneven and uphill trails. The increase in elevation around Namche and Hotel Everest View also means that a sensible pace and proper acclimatization are important.

Everest View Trek Elevation Profile
The Everest View Trek elevation profile gradually rises from Lukla at around 2,850 m to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m, with the highest point reached during the acclimatization hike to Hotel Everest View at approximately 3,962 m. The route then descends through the Dudh Koshi Valley toward Lukla before returning to Kathmandu.
The trek is rated moderate, with the most demanding section being the uphill climb from Monjo toward Namche Bazaar. The acclimatization day provides a gradual hike to higher elevation before returning to Namche, allowing trekkers to explore the Khumbu landscape while adjusting to the altitude.
How to Get to the Everest View Trek
The Everest View Trek begins with a journey from Kathmandu to Ramechhap, followed by a scenic flight to Lukla, the main gateway to the Khumbu region. From Lukla, the trekking route continues through Phakding and Namche Bazaar before reaching the Everest View Hotel viewpoint.
For this 8-day itinerary, the flight to Lukla operates from Ramechhap Airport, so trekkers need to travel from Kathmandu to Ramechhap by road before boarding the flight. Because the road transfer and mountain flight can be affected by traffic, weather and operating conditions, it is important to follow the departure schedule provided by your trekking operator.
Kathmandu to Ramechhap
The journey from Kathmandu to Ramechhap is completed by road before the flight to Lukla. The drive generally takes several hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.
For trekkers joining the Everest View Trek, the road transfer is arranged as part of the itinerary. An early departure from Kathmandu may be required to reach Ramechhap Airport in time for the Lukla flight.
Road conditions can change, particularly during the monsoon and periods of road construction, so the actual travel time may vary. Your trekking team will provide the latest departure details and coordinate the transfer according to the flight schedule.
Ramechhap to Lukla Flight
From Ramechhap Airport, you take a scenic domestic flight to Lukla (2,850 m). The flight offers impressive views of the Himalayan landscape before landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport.
Lukla is the starting point for the trekking section of the Everest View Trek. After arriving, the trail descends and follows the Dudh Koshi Valley toward Phakding (2,610 m), where the first overnight stay takes place.
Mountain flights are dependent on weather and operational conditions, so flight times can occasionally change. Keeping some flexibility in your schedule is recommended when travelling to the Everest region.
Lukla to the Everest View Trek Route
Once you reach Lukla, the trek begins toward Phakding and then continues to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m). The route follows forested trails, crosses suspension bridges and passes through traditional Sherpa settlements before entering Sagarmatha National Park.
After an acclimatization day in Namche, the trek continues toward the Hotel Everest View, the main viewpoint of the journey, before returning through Namche and Lukla.
Returning to Kathmandu After the Trek
After completing the trekking section, you return from Lukla to Ramechhap by domestic flight and continue by road to Kathmandu. The return journey follows the same general access route used at the beginning of the trek.
As both the Lukla flight and the Ramechhap–Kathmandu road journey can be affected by weather, traffic and operating conditions, it is advisable to leave sufficient time before any international flight or other fixed travel plans.
A Practical Tip for International Travellers
If you are arriving in Nepal on an international flight, allow enough time before starting the Everest View Trek. The journey to Ramechhap and the flight to Lukla depend on road and weather conditions, so a little flexibility can make the overall trip more comfortable.
Similarly, after returning from Lukla, avoid scheduling your international departure too closely after the planned arrival in Kathmandu. Allowing a reasonable buffer gives you more flexibility if the mountain flight or road transfer is delayed.
Everest View Trek Difficulty, Fitness & Altitude
The Everest View Trek is graded moderate, offering a manageable introduction to trekking in the Everest region without the longer and more demanding route to Everest Base Camp. The trek includes forest trails, stone paths, suspension bridges and several sustained uphill and downhill sections, with the highest point reached during the acclimatization hike to Hotel Everest View at approximately 3,962 m / 12,999 ft. The trekking days generally involve several hours of walking, making reasonable fitness and regular walking preparation useful.
Where the Effort Actually Is?
The difficulty of the Everest View Trek is concentrated around a few sections rather than being equally strenuous throughout the journey.
The main physical challenge comes on the trail from Phakding to Namche Bazaar, where the route follows the Dudh Koshi River before becoming steeper beyond Monjo. The final ascent through the forest to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m requires steady effort, particularly as the altitude increases.
The acclimatization hike from Namche toward Hotel Everest View is another important section. Although the walk is designed to be gradual, it reaches approximately 3,962 m, making the combination of uphill walking and altitude noticeable. After returning to Namche, the route continues downhill toward Lukla, with a mixture of descents and shorter uphill sections.
How to Prepare for the Everest View Trek
You do not need advanced mountaineering experience for the Everest View Trek, but good walking endurance and basic leg strength will make the journey more comfortable. The most useful preparation is to become accustomed to walking for several hours and handling uphill and downhill terrain.
- Walk regularly before the trek: Aim for 3–4 walking sessions per week and gradually increase the duration.
- Practice hills and stairs: Include uphill and downhill walking, stairs or an inclined treadmill to prepare for the climb toward Namche.
- Build leg strength: Squats, lunges, step-ups and calf raises can help prepare your legs for repeated ascents and descents.
- Take longer practice walks: Complete several walks of around 2–4 hours before departure so you become comfortable staying active for longer periods.
- Prepare for changing temperatures: Bring warm layers, especially for early mornings and higher elevations around Namche and Hotel Everest View.
- Use comfortable trekking footwear: Choose well-fitting shoes or boots with good grip for uneven and sometimes steep mountain trails.
- Avoid last-minute overtraining: Reduce intense exercise before departure and focus on rest, sleep and recovery.
How Difficult Is Everest View Trek Compared with Longer Treks?
The Everest View Trek is shorter and reaches a lower elevation than the classic Everest Base Camp route, making it a practical option for travellers who want to experience the Everest region without committing to a longer high-altitude trek.
However, the trek still involves several consecutive days of walking and reaches nearly 4,000 m during the acclimatization hike. The steep approach to Namche, altitude gain and longer return walk toward Lukla mean that basic preparation is worthwhile.
With regular walking, appropriate clothing and a steady pace, reasonably fit travellers can enjoy the route while allowing enough time to adjust to the changing altitude.
Altitude, Acclimatization & Safety
The Everest View Trek gradually gains altitude from Lukla at approximately 2,850 m to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m, followed by an acclimatization hike to Hotel Everest View at approximately 3,962 m. The route then descends toward Lukla before the return flight to Ramechhap and Kathmandu.
The itinerary includes a dedicated acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar, with a morning hike toward Hotel Everest View followed by a return to Namche. This allows trekkers to spend time at a higher elevation without immediately moving their overnight stay to that altitude.
At these elevations, altitude should be taken seriously. Walk at a comfortable pace, stay hydrated, eat regularly, rest when needed and tell your guide if you feel unwell.
Everest View Trek Altitude Profile
- Kathmandu — 1,350 m / 4,429 ft: Starting point of the journey and the base for trek preparation.
- Lukla — 2,850 m / 9,350 ft: Trekking gateway to the Everest region.
- Phakding — 2,610 m / 8,563 ft: First overnight trekking stop after the flight to Lukla.
- Namche Bazaar — 3,440 m / 11,286 ft: Main Sherpa settlement and key acclimatization point.
- Hotel Everest View — 3,962 m / 12,999 ft: Highest point reached during the acclimatization hike.
- Lukla — 2,850 m / 9,350 ft: Final trekking point before the return flight.
How the Body Adapts to Altitude
As you gain altitude, atmospheric pressure decreases and less oxygen is available with each breath. Your body needs time to adjust, which is why the Everest View Trek includes an acclimatization day in Namche before the higher hike toward Hotel Everest View.
For trekkers, the practical approach is simple: ascend gradually, maintain a comfortable pace, eat and drink regularly, rest adequately and communicate with your guide if you feel unwell.
Symptoms of Altitude Sickness to Watch For
Mild acute mountain sickness (AMS) symptoms can include:
- Headache
- Nausea or reduced appetite
- Fatigue or unusual tiredness
- Dizziness
- Difficulty sleeping
Tell your trekking guide promptly if these symptoms appear or become worse. More concerning symptoms can include:
- Severe or persistent headache
- Repeated vomiting
- Confusion or unusual behaviour
- Difficulty walking or poor coordination
- Shortness of breath while resting
If significant altitude-related symptoms develop, the priority is to stop ascending and seek appropriate medical assistance. Descending to a lower altitude is an important response when serious altitude illness is suspected.
How Nepal Lion Tours Supports Altitude Safety
- Planned acclimatization: The itinerary includes a dedicated acclimatization day in Namche with a hike toward Hotel Everest View before returning to Namche.
- Experienced trekking guide: A licensed trekking guide accompanies the group and can monitor your condition throughout the trek.
- First-aid support: A first-aid medical kit is carried by the guide during the trek.
- Gradual route progression: The itinerary moves from Lukla to Phakding, then Namche, before the higher acclimatization hike.
- Descent after the highest point: After reaching Hotel Everest View, you return to Namche rather than staying overnight at the highest elevation.
- Travel insurance: Travel and medical insurance are not included in the package, so trekkers should arrange appropriate insurance before departure.
Best Time to Trek Everest View
The best time for the Everest View Trek is generally autumn (September–November) and spring (March–May). Autumn usually offers clear mountain views, stable weather and comfortable trekking conditions, while spring brings mild temperatures and blooming rhododendrons along the lower trails. The trek is possible in other seasons, but winter can bring colder conditions at higher elevations, while the monsoon may bring rain, clouds and flight disruptions.
Season | Months | Weather & Trail Conditions | Overall |
Autumn | September–November | Generally dry, clear and stable | Best for clear views |
Spring | March–May | Mild with blooming rhododendrons | Excellent choice |
Winter | December–February | Cold; frost or snow possible at higher elevations | Good with preparation |
Monsoon | June–August | Wet, cloudy and potentially slippery | Less predictable |
Autumn — September to November
Autumn is one of the most favourable seasons for the Everest View Trek, particularly October and November. Post-monsoon conditions generally bring clearer skies, better visibility and relatively dry trails. These conditions are ideal for viewing Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse and Thamserku from the Namche and Everest View areas.
Spring — March to May
Spring is another excellent season for trekking in the Everest region. March and April generally offer comfortable conditions for walking, while rhododendrons add colour to the forests along the lower sections of the route. Mountain views are often clearest in the morning before clouds develop later in the day.
Winter — December to February
Winter brings colder temperatures and quieter trails, particularly around Namche Bazaar and higher elevations. Clear winter days can provide excellent mountain visibility, but frost, snow and icy sections are possible. Trekkers choosing this season should bring suitable warm clothing and be prepared for changing mountain conditions.
Monsoon — June to August
Monsoon is a less predictable period for the Everest View Trek. Rain, cloud cover, wet trails and reduced mountain visibility can affect the trekking experience. Flights between Ramechhap and Lukla can also be affected by weather conditions, so travellers choosing this season should allow flexibility in their itinerary.
Which Season Should You Choose?
Choose autumn if clear Himalayan views and stable trekking conditions are your main priorities. Choose spring for mild weather and blooming rhododendrons. Winter can suit trekkers who prefer quieter trails and are prepared for colder conditions, while monsoon requires greater flexibility because of rain, cloud cover and possible flight disruptions.
Weather in the Himalayas can change quickly, so conditions are never guaranteed regardless of the season. Checking the weather forecast shortly before departure and staying flexible with flight schedules is recommended.
Everest View Trek Permits & Regulations
The Everest View Trek enters Sagarmatha National Park, so trekkers need the applicable national park entry permit and TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) Card before starting the trekking section. The Nepal Tourism Board specifically lists the Everest View Trek among the Everest-region routes covered by the current TIMS requirements.
For trekkers booking with Nepal Lion Tours, the required permit and TIMS arrangements are handled as part of the trekking preparation, so you do not need to complete the process independently.
Everest View Trek Permits at a Glance
Requirement | Who Needs It? | Who Arranges It? |
Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit | Trekkers entering Sagarmatha National Park | Nepal Lion Tours |
TIMS Card | Trekkers on the Everest View Trek | Nepal Lion Tours |
Fees and trekking regulations can be revised by the relevant authorities. Confirm the applicable requirements and charges when booking.
Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
The Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit is required because the Everest View Trek passes through the protected Everest region. The park entrance is checked along the trekking route, including at the Monjo area.
What you need:
- A valid passport
- The applicable park entry fee
- Permit documentation arranged before or during the required registration process
When you book the trek with Nepal Lion Tours, the required park permit is arranged according to current regulations and included in the package where stated in the inclusions.
TIMS Card for the Everest View Trek
The TIMS Card records important trekker and itinerary information. The current Nepal Tourism Board information specifically lists the Everest View Trek among the routes requiring a TIMS Card and a licensed trekking guide.
TIMS registration is processed through registered trekking agencies, with details of trekkers, guides and trekking routes submitted through the official system.
For guests travelling with Nepal Lion Tours, the applicable TIMS registration is handled as part of the pre-trek preparation.
Do You Need a Restricted-Area Trekking Permit?
No, not for the standard Everest View Trek route.
The itinerary through Lukla, Phakding, Namche Bazaar and Hotel Everest View does not enter Nepal's designated restricted trekking areas that require a special permit from the Department of Immigration. Restricted-area permits apply to specifically designated areas and routes.
However, permit requirements can change, and additional documentation may apply if you modify the itinerary or add a restricted trekking area. Your trekking company should confirm the current requirements before departure.
Who Arranges the Permits?
When you book the Everest View Trek with Nepal Lion Tours, the trekking team arranges the required Sagarmatha National Park permit and TIMS Card as part of the pre-trek paperwork.
You should still carry your original passport during the trek, as it may be required for identification or permit checks.
Because government fees and trekking regulations can be revised, the final permit requirements and applicable charges should always be confirmed before departure.
Food & Accommodation on the Everest View Trek
Accommodation and meals are an important part of the Everest View Trek experience. The Khumbu region has an established network of teahouses and trekking lodges, providing practical accommodation and a variety of meals along the route.
You will stay in local teahouses or lodges in places such as Phakding, Namche Bazaar and Lukla. Facilities can become more basic at higher elevations, but they generally provide the essentials needed after a day of trekking.
Teahouse Accommodation on the Everest View Trek
You will generally stay in twin-sharing rooms at local teahouses or trekking lodges. Facilities vary between villages and individual lodges, so expect comfortable but simple mountain accommodation rather than hotel-style services.
Typical facilities may include:
- Twin-sharing rooms with beds, mattresses, pillows and blankets.
- Shared bathrooms at most teahouses, with private bathrooms available at some lodges.
- Hot showers at selected lodges, usually available for an additional charge.
- Electricity for lighting and device charging, although charging may cost extra.
- Dining areas where trekkers can eat, rest and spend the evening.
- Wi-Fi at some lodges, although connection quality can vary.
- Basic bedding suitable for the season and elevation.
Namche Bazaar generally offers a wider range of accommodation and facilities than smaller villages along the route. Teahouses in Phakding and Lukla also provide essential facilities for trekkers, while services can become simpler depending on the lodge and operating conditions.
What Food Is Available on the Everest View Trek?
Food along the Everest View Trek includes traditional Nepali meals, Tibetan-influenced dishes and familiar international options. Most teahouses have menus designed specifically for trekkers.
Common options include:
- Dal bhat with rice, lentils, vegetables and pickle
- Momos
- Noodles and noodle soup
- Fried rice
- Pasta
- Soups
- Potatoes
- Eggs
- Porridge
- Pancakes
- Toast and other simple breakfast options
Dal bhat is a popular choice because it is filling and provides a substantial meal after a day of walking. Vegetarian meals are also widely available along the route.
If you follow a vegan, gluten-free or other specific diet, inform Nepal Lion Tours before departure. Your guide can communicate your requirements to the lodges, although food choices may be more limited in smaller settlements.
What Food and Accommodation Are Included?
According to the package arrangements, accommodation and meals are provided during the trekking section as specified in the package inclusions.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner as specified | Snacks and desserts |

Other services listed in the package inclusions | Personal expenses and tips |
Always check the final package inclusions before departure, as individual lodge facilities and available services can vary.
Drinking Water on the Trek
Safe drinking water is important throughout the Everest View Trek. Do not assume that untreated tap, stream or spring water is safe to drink.
You can purchase bottled water or obtain treated or boiled water from teahouses. For a more environmentally responsible option, carry a reusable bottle and use a suitable water filter, purification tablets or another reliable water-treatment method.
Drink regularly throughout the day, particularly while walking and as you gain altitude. Your water needs depend on weather, walking intensity and individual requirements.
Staying Comfortable at Teahouses
A few simple preparations can make your evenings more comfortable:
- Carry a reusable water bottle or hydration system.
- Bring a suitable sleeping bag if recommended for your departure season.
- Carry a power bank because charging facilities may be limited or paid.
- Keep some Nepalese rupees available for showers, charging, snacks and drinks.
- Bring warm layers for cool mornings and evenings.
- Keep your personal medication and essential items easily accessible.
- Tell your guide about dietary requirements before the trek starts.
The Everest View Trek combines practical teahouse accommodation with the experience of staying in traditional mountain settlements. After walking through the Dudh Koshi Valley, Sagarmatha National Park and Sherpa villages, having a warm meal and a simple place to rest is an important part of the journey.

Everest View Trek Packing List
Packing for the Everest View Trek is relatively straightforward because you stay in teahouses rather than camping. The key is to prepare for changing temperatures as you move from Lukla at around 2,850 m to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m and Hotel Everest View at approximately 3,962 m.
A practical layering system is more useful than carrying large amounts of clothing. Nepal Lion Tours provides a down jacket, sleeping bag, duffel bag and trekking map as part of the package, so you can avoid carrying several bulky items yourself.
Hiking Gear
- Trekking boots or shoes with good grip that are already broken in.
- Trekking poles, particularly useful on the steeper sections between Phakding and Namche and on the return descent.
- A 25–35 litre daypack with a rain cover.
- A reusable water bottle or hydration system.
- Water purification tablets, a filter or another reliable water-treatment method.
- Headlamp or small flashlight with spare batteries.
- Small dry bags or waterproof pouches for electronics and important documents.
Clothing: Use Layers Rather Than Bulk
Temperatures can change considerably between the lower Khumbu trails and higher elevations around Namche and Hotel Everest View. Pack several lightweight layers that can be added or removed as conditions change.
Base layers
- 1–2 lightweight thermal tops.
- 1 thermal bottom for colder departures or winter trekking.
- Merino wool or synthetic fabrics are preferable to cotton for trekking.
Mid-layers
- 1 fleece or warm mid-layer.
- 1 lightweight insulated jacket or puffer for cold mornings and evenings.
Outer layers
- 1 waterproof and wind-resistant jacket with a hood.
- Waterproof trousers or rain pants, particularly useful during wet-weather trekking.
Trekking clothes
- 2 pairs of trekking trousers.
- 2–4 trekking shirts, depending on personal preference.
- 4–5 pairs of trekking socks.
- Comfortable sleep or lounge clothing.
Headwear and gloves
- Warm beanie or fleece hat.
- Sun hat or cap with a brim.
- Warm gloves for colder mornings.
- Buff or neck gaiter for sun, wind and cold.
You do not need a separate wardrobe for the trek. A few versatile layers can cover most conditions along the Lukla–Phakding–Namche–Lukla route.
Sleeping and Evening Comfort
Teahouses provide beds and basic bedding, but a few personal items can make evenings more comfortable.
- Sleeping bag — provided by Nepal Lion Tours according to the package inclusions.
- Sleeping-bag liner if you prefer an additional layer for hygiene or warmth.
- Earplugs if you are sensitive to noise in shared teahouse rooms.
- Eye mask if you prefer to sleep in brighter environments.
Toiletries and Personal Health Items
Keep toiletries compact and bring only what you are likely to use during the eight-day journey.
- Sunglasses with good UV protection.
- Sunscreen and SPF lip balm.
- Personal medications.
- Small personal first-aid kit.
- Blister plasters or blister treatment.
- Basic pain relief if you normally use it.
- Rehydration salts if needed.
- Toothbrush and toothpaste.
- Biodegradable soap or a small body wash.
- Hand sanitiser.
- Quick-dry towel.
- Wet wipes.
- Toilet paper or tissues.
- Lightweight sandals or camp shoes for use inside the teahouse.
Electronics
You do not need much technology for the Everest View Trek, but these items can be useful:
- Mobile phone and charging cable.
- Power bank, preferably around 10,000–20,000 mAh.
- Camera and spare batteries if you plan to photograph the mountains.
- Universal travel adapter if required for your devices.
Charging facilities are available at many teahouses, although some lodges may charge an additional fee. Internet and mobile connectivity can also vary along the route, so do not rely on continuous connection throughout the trek.
Documents and Money
Keep important documents protected and easily accessible.
- Passport and copies of important travel documents.
- Travel insurance details, including your insurer's emergency contact information.
- Copies or digital records of relevant permit documentation if provided by your trekking company.
- Sufficient Nepalese rupees in smaller denominations for personal expenses such as drinks, snacks, showers, charging and tips.
- Emergency contact details stored both on your phone and separately.
Your trekking company handles the required Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and applicable TIMS Card registration according to current regulations.
How Much Should You Pack?
For an 8-day Everest View Trek, lighter is generally better. Avoid heavy jeans, unnecessary shoes, excessive clothing and bulky toiletries.
Keep frequently needed items such as water, sunscreen, snacks, rain gear, medication and valuables in your daypack. Your main belongings can be carried separately according to the package's baggage arrangements, while you keep essential items with you during the day's walk.
Confirm the applicable baggage allowance with Nepal Lion Tours before departure, particularly because the itinerary includes flights between Ramechhap and Lukla.
The goal is not to pack for every possible condition. Pack versatile layers, reliable footwear, rain protection and the personal essentials you genuinely need.

What to Know Before Booking
The Everest View Trek is a short, teahouse-based trek, but a little preparation can make the journey much easier. The route combines mountain flights, changing elevations and several days of walking, so here are the practical things worth knowing before you book.
Accommodation and Facilities
You will stay in local teahouses or lodges in twin-sharing rooms with basic bedding and shared bathrooms. Namche Bazaar generally offers more facilities, while smaller settlements such as Phakding and Lukla may have simpler services.
Hot showers and device charging are available at many lodges for an additional fee, while Wi-Fi and mobile connectivity can vary along the route. Carry a power bank and some Nepalese rupees for personal expenses.
Food and Dietary Requirements
Meals along the Everest View Trek include familiar Nepali and international options, with dal bhat, momos, noodles, rice, pasta, eggs and porridge commonly available.
Vegetarian meals are widely available. If you are vegan, gluten-free or have a food allergy, inform Nepal Lion Tours before departure so your guide can communicate your requirements to the lodges.
Altitude, Health and Insurance
The highest point reached on this itinerary is approximately Hotel Everest View at 3,962 m, so altitude should still be taken seriously even though this is a shorter trek.
Walk at a comfortable pace, stay hydrated and allow your body time to adjust. The itinerary includes an acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar with a hike toward Hotel Everest View before returning to Namche.
Tell your guide if you develop unusual symptoms such as persistent headache, dizziness, nausea, unusual fatigue or significant breathlessness.
Travel and medical insurance are not included in the package. Arrange appropriate insurance before travelling and check that your policy covers trekking at the elevations included in your itinerary.
Money and Tipping
Carry enough Nepalese rupees in smaller notes for personal expenses such as drinks, snacks, hot showers, charging and tips. Do not rely entirely on cards or ATMs once you are in the Everest region.
Tipping is customary but voluntary. If you are satisfied with the service provided by your guide or other trekking staff, a tip at the end of the trek is a common way to show your appreciation.
Culture and Responsible Trekking
The route passes through Sherpa communities and areas with important Buddhist cultural sites. Tourism is an important part of the local economy, so travelling respectfully helps protect the character of the region.
A few simple habits go a long way:
- Ask before photographing local people.
- Dress respectfully around villages, monasteries and religious sites.
- Follow local customs when visiting Buddhist sites.
- Avoid littering and carry a reusable water bottle where practical.
- Buy from local shops and support locally operated teahouses.
- Leave plants, wildlife and cultural sites undisturbed.
- Follow your guide's advice on local trail and environmental practices.
Route Options
The standard 8-day Everest View Trek is designed for travellers who want to experience the Khumbu region without undertaking a longer high-altitude trek.
If your schedule, interests or fitness level are different, other options may suit you better:
- Everest Base Camp Trek: A longer itinerary reaching Everest Base Camp at approximately 5,364 m.
- Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return: A shorter return option after completing the main EBC trekking route.
- Gokyo Valley Trek: A different Khumbu route featuring Gokyo Lakes and high mountain viewpoints.
- Everest Three High Passes Trek: A more demanding option involving multiple high-altitude passes.
Your itinerary can also be discussed with Nepal Lion Tours if you want to understand the available departure dates, group arrangements or trekking options.
Booking and Before You Arrive
Before confirming your Everest View Trek package, make sure you understand:
- What is included in the package price.
- Your accommodation and meal arrangements.
- Permit and TIMS arrangements.
- Kathmandu–Ramechhap transportation and Ramechhap–Lukla flights.
- Cancellation and payment terms.
- What trekking equipment Nepal Lion Tours provides.
- Your travel insurance coverage.
- The applicable baggage allowance for the Lukla flights.
Once your dates are confirmed, share your arrival and departure details with your trekking company so airport transfers, accommodation and pre-trek arrangements can be coordinated.
A Few Final Tips
Break in your trekking boots before arriving in Nepal, carry some cash for personal expenses, keep your important documents accessible and download anything you may need offline before leaving Kathmandu.
Most importantly, leave some flexibility in your schedule. Weather can affect mountain flights between Ramechhap and Lukla, while road conditions can also change the timing of transfers. Allowing extra time makes the journey more comfortable and reduces the pressure of tight connections.
